This monochrome painting of Fittonia (the snakeskin plant) uses a similar technique to that in 'A THOUSAND AND ONE ARABIAN NIGHTS' to reveal the spiral.  But here it is within a square, within a square, set on the diagonal.  The grid is emphasised by giving it width and light.
